<p>Fans of Norfolk basketball packed themselves into the Framingham Earl Sports Centre Sunday afternoon to witness three compelling end-of-season games in the plate, trophy and cup finals.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Plate Final</strong></span></p>
<p>In the first game, Reepham Rapiers came up against the Gunners of Great Yarmouth. The teams found themselves at opposite ends of the table in the league but for three quarters this was an even matchup, owed largely to the hot shooting of Reepham guards Greg Graver and Luke Harvey.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a style="color: #ff4b33; line-height: 24px; font-size: 16px;" href="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/380585_10150711157851336_529341335_9902903_2001397004_n.jpg" rel="lightbox[482]"><img class="size-medium wp-image-487 aligncenter" style="border-image: initial; border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;" title="380585_10150711157851336_529341335_9902903_2001397004_n" src="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/380585_10150711157851336_529341335_9902903_2001397004_n-300x212.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="212" /></a></p>
<p>In the end it was the inspired guard-play of the Gunners backcourt that led them to victory with Danus Demikis and Linus Leipinaitis penetrating into the paint with an array of stunning moves and Reepham couldn&#8217;t claw their way back. Behind a nearly 40-point performance, PCC point guard Demikis took home the MVP trophy.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/579121_10150711156706336_529341335_9902895_393037970_n.jpg" rel="lightbox[482]"><img class="size-medium wp-image-489 aligncenter" style="border-image: initial; border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;" title="579121_10150711156706336_529341335_9902895_393037970_n" src="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/579121_10150711156706336_529341335_9902895_393037970_n-204x300.jpg" alt="" width="204" height="300" /></a></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Trophy Final </span></strong></p>
<p>The second game of the day saw UEA Panthers pitted against the Eagles of King&#8217;s Lynn. Both teams were dominant in league play with the Eagles getting the better of UEA in both previous games by narrow margins to take 1st place with UEA in 2nd. The game was set-up to be a physical but skilful contest and it didn&#8217;t disappoint.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/550075_10150705593021336_529341335_9885582_422378886_n.jpg" rel="lightbox[482]"><img class="size-medium wp-image-490 aligncenter" style="border-image: initial; border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;" title="550075_10150705593021336_529341335_9885582_422378886_n" src="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/550075_10150705593021336_529341335_9885582_422378886_n-293x300.jpg" alt="" width="293" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>The teams largely traded baskets for three quarters before UEA began to take advantage of their running game to pull ahead. King&#8217;s Lynn threatened to come back into the game but each run was met with a key three-point dagger from the Panthers to stem to tide.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/523217_10150705591056336_529341335_9885558_1502217238_n.jpg" rel="lightbox[482]"><img class="size-medium wp-image-491 aligncenter" style="border-image: initial; border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;" title="523217_10150705591056336_529341335_9885558_1502217238_n" src="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/523217_10150705591056336_529341335_9885558_1502217238_n-300x195.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="195" /></a></p>
<p>In the end UEA ran out comfortable winners behind a solid team performance and the controlling play of UEA forward and game MVP Lauren Knight.</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Cup Final</span></strong></p>
<p>In the final game of the day, Norwich City Thunder took on the King&#8217;s Lynn Mavericks for bragging rights in the senior men&#8217;s competition. The Thunder came into the game having spent most of the season in the top 3 of the first division, while the Mavericks ran out clear winners in division two with a dominant campaign in their first season.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/541117_10150711165926336_529341335_9902983_419563791_n.jpg" rel="lightbox[482]"><img class="size-medium wp-image-492 aligncenter" style="border-image: initial; border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;" title="541117_10150711165926336_529341335_9902983_419563791_n" src="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/541117_10150711165926336_529341335_9902983_419563791_n-235x300.jpg" alt="" width="235" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>The Thunder began the game with a barrage of threes from Richard Milbourne and some determined hustle plays in the key from brother Phil, leading at the end of the first quarter by double-digits. The Mavericks were far from out of the game and started to heat up themselves with key outside baskets from T Liberis and J Praneviuos.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/576028_10150711163766336_529341335_9902952_186563417_n.jpg" rel="lightbox[482]"><img class="size-medium wp-image-493 aligncenter" style="border-image: initial; border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;" title="576028_10150711163766336_529341335_9902952_186563417_n" src="http://norfolkbasketball.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/576028_10150711163766336_529341335_9902952_186563417_n-300x295.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="295" /></a></p>
<p>Mavericks entered half-time down by 1 but roared into an early lead in the second half behind the strong play of forward Gytis Medzevepris. The game see-sawed back in the Thunder&#8217;s favour early in the fourth quarter with forward Nick Osborne able to find his range from both inside and outside the arc. King&#8217;s Lynn pulled ahead for the final time with under a minute to play and the Thunder were unable to draw iron with their final shot, leaving the Mavericks to walk away with the title.</p>
<p>Praneviuos walked away with the MVP on the back of an accomplished all-round performance, knocking down tough shots inside while taking contact, but also draining from downtown to keep the Mavericks alive in the tie.</p>

<p>Jack Lockhart, former <a href="http://norfolkd1m.leaguerepublic.com/DisplayTeam.do?teamID=8555807&amp;divisionseason=7607859">Norwich All-Stars</a> stalwart has been making waves in the US and expectations for the coming season are higher than ever. After last year&#8217;s first ever NAIA National Tournament Final-Four appearance, the Northwood University men&#8217;s basketball team has been picked to win the 2011-2012 national championship. In the NAIA Division II Preseason Coaches&#8217; Poll, the Seahawks took the top spot and are preseason ranked No. 1 in the nation. This is the first time in the history of the program that the Seahawks begin the season at the top of the list.<br /><br />Other opponents ranked in the Top 25 include No. 4 Bellevue University (Neb.), No. 8 Embry-Riddle, and No. 19 Warner University.<br /><br />In addition to being picked No. 1 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches&#8217; Poll, the Seahawks were also picked to finish first in the Sun Conference regular season. Coach Rollie Massimino&#8217;s Seahawks received eight out of the nine possible first place votes. Massimino, who was the 2011 NAIA National Coach of the Year, returns six letterwinners who helped <br />the Seahawks to a perfect 16-0 record. The returning veterans include the 2011 Sun Conference Player of the Year and First-Team All-American, Jonathan Dunn (24 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.3 spg), and All-Conference selection and third-team All-American, Patrick Horstmann (11.9 ppg, 10 rpg, 1.6 apg). The Seahawks will also be welcoming newcomers <br />Masse Doumbe and Jake Lockhart, who are expected to make significant contributions to the team&#8217;s success this season.</p>
